Dating apps have become a popular outlet for artist promotion, Mariah Carey created a Match.com profile to premiere the music video for her single “Infinity,” and Zedd and Jason Derulo utilized Tinder’s swipe right function to promote an album and a video.

With the influence of commercial radio on the decline and the Internet and mobile technology providing a myriad ways for listeners to listen to and discover new music, record labels and their artists are getting more creative in their efforts to promote their latest offerings.

PlentyOfFish has taken a different approach to the trend by actually marketing the app itself by featuring it in various music videos. The dating service has shown up in videos by Britney Spears, Kesha, Lady Gaga and Flo Rida. The service also worked with Gaga in promoting her concert tour.

Hollywood Is Hooking Up With Tinder, Grindr for Movie, TV Projects

Earlier this month, Twentieth Century Fox hooked up with Tinder to market the comedy “Spy,” starring Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law, which opens later this week. Instead of a date, users were given the chance to “swipe right” (Tinder-speak for you’re interested) for free tickets to special screenings of the movie around the country.

“It completely sold out in every market,” Fox Studios president of marketing Marc Weinstock told TheWrap. “Tinder was a perfect match for our audience. They’re very strong in the 17-34 [demographic]. What could be better for a first date than a hilarious comedy?”
