‘No Kings’ protests against Trump bring 7 million people nationwide
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, massive “No Kings” protests took place across the United States in opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies, with demonstrations occurring in all 50 states and several U.S. territories. Organizers estimated that nearly 7 million people participated in over 2,700 events nationwide, calling it one of the largest single-day protests in U.S. history. The rallies followed a similar wave of protests in June 2025, which drew an estimated 5 million participants.
Protesters gathered in major cities such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, and Atlanta, often creating a festive, carnival-like atmosphere with music, costumes, and patriotic symbols. In Chicago, an estimated 100,000 people marched past Trump Tower, while San Francisco saw around 50,000 demonstrators, including notable figures like Joan Baez, Angela Davis, and Nancy Pelosi. Protesters carried signs with messages such as “Nothing is more patriotic than protesting” and “Resist Fascism,” emphasizing concerns over what they described as authoritarian trends in the Trump administration.
Despite heightened security and National Guard preparations in several states, most protests remained peaceful, with few arrests reported in major cities. However, in Portland and Illinois, federal agents used crowd control measures including gas and munitions against protesters near ICE facilities, prompting legal concerns and accusations of excessive force.
